Just thought I’d share a pic of my mini solar rig of three 50w panels. My garden is tiny and partly shaded by neighbouring trees so this is all I could fit in to the afternoon sunny bit. The left panel is mounted on a post which I can turn to follow the sun, the other two are fixed to the SW facing fence.

All are hinged at the top and propped on extendable poles so I can change their angle with the seasons. The best output I’ve got so far was around 125w which I was quite pleased with. I’m charging a 50Ah lifepo4 battery along with various other smaller battery packs, which I use to power my computer monitor and smaller devices, plus occasional cooking with a 300w mini oven.

The small apple tree seemingly shading the two right hand panels is not a problem at the moment as the sun is so high, might need to trim it a bit later in the year though!
Anyway, I know this is all very insignificant compared to the mega systems most of you are enjoying, but it pleases me hugely, I’ve learned a lot doing it , and maybe one day we’ll move to a bigger house with space for a massive array and I can join you grown up

hit a new record of 17.5 amps (as usual, don't laugh!) on my small 12v 250w system today, which is encouraging considering it's almost October. That a whole amp more than the previous record of around 16.5 in the height of summer – I guess it's because the panels are much cooler now. Very pleasing whatever the reason.

All the panels are hinged at the top and propped underneath so I'm able to easily change the angle. I experimented with this over the summer and never got more than 16.5 amps, so it would seem the temperature has a lot more to do with it in this case. Currently it's 16oC, over the summer it was regularly double that and more.
